CREWC’s Community & Business Connections: natural life destination for West Carleton

Being self-employed and/or a small employer can sometimes be isolating. And isolation can stifle creativity and the flow of clients. Both can affect future growth. Add a rural location into the mix and it only makes sense that seeking out ways to promote and inspire business development should be a priority.

Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre is a destination; a beautiful woodland oasis that offers amazing opportunities for people to learn and grow and heal in a supportive environment.

But make no mistake; the Natural Health Clinic (www.crnhc.com) is, after all, a business.

So more than a few times every month we reach out to our peers, the community and other businesses to share and sometimes brag about what we do and how we are doing it, to invite them to participate and connect with you. Our goal is always to strengthen our business today and plan for the future.

Here are a few examples of what we have been doing lately:

Rural Healthy Living Coalition

Carp Ridge practitioner and healthy food expert Cindy Fleming represents the Natural Health Clinic on the City of Ottawa’s Rural Healthy Living Coalition, which works in partnership with organizations, businesses and individuals in the community to bring public health services and programs to adults and seniors living in West Carleton-March and other City wards.

Cindy’s presence on this committee serves to reinforce the Clinic’s commitment to participating in the community, using our expertise and rolling up our sleeves to help initiate change in a collaborative way.

Business Breakfast Club in Kanata

Every Thursday morning at 7:15 our marketing rep, Karen Secord, attends a meeting of small business entrepreneurs at Colonnade Restaurant in Kanata. It’s one of a dozen or so similar groups in the Ottawa area that provide a solid networking opportunity for its members.

Karen does a brief “infomercial” about the Natural Health Clinic at every meeting, familiarizing the other business people with what we offer so that they can then promote us to their clients, staff and contacts. Once every few months Karen does a more in-depth presentation on a topic that, hopefully, engages the imaginations of those in attendence.

Belonging to the Business Breakfast Club is like having dozens of sales people working for you because all the other members carry several copies of our business cards around with them. When they meet someone new who could use our products or service, they hand our card out and recommend us. And Karen does the same in return.

It’s simple as that! Simple because it’s based on proven concept of what goes around, comes around. If I help you, you’ll help me and we will both benefit as a result.

Kanata Chamber of Commerce

The Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre proudly counts itself among the nearly 400 members of the Kanata Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is well established in the Kanata, Goulborn and West Carleton areas of the City of Ottawa, supporting local business and the community by providing networking opportunities and educational programming, and by its involvement in community initiatives.

Karen represented the Centre at the April breakfast meeting, learning about the many services available to small businesses from the Entrepreneurship Centre at Ottawa City Hall and the Ottawa Public Library (Nepean and Main branches).

On May 17, CREWC volunteers at the Chamber’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament at Loch March Gold & Country Club. Proceeds of the event go to charity. Why not treat yourself to a fun Tuesday on the greens and come join us!
