Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No prior experience is needed.  If you’re feeling nervous about any activities, just introduce yourself to our friendly staff, and we’ll take care of you.

How can I find out if a room is available?

You can find out if a room is available online, via the accommodation booking service. Or, if you prefer, by calling us +1-613-839-1198.  You will need a valid credit card to make a reservation.

If you’d like to make bookings for a special event (such as a wedding or a family reunion) please call us (+1-613-839-1198) or let us know online at least one month in advance. If your event is in summer (June to August) please organize it with us at least two months in advance.

Is there phone service and WiFi?

Yes, there’s phone reception, 24-hour internet and WiFi here. But while you’re here, we encourage you to disconnect from screens.

We know it’s nice to research in a place with a view. For this reason, we’ve set aside a Business Service Area with free 24-hour internet connection, via ethernet connection. We have ethernet cables you can borrow.

WiFI is available at the B&B. The WiFi is only turned on a couple of times a day (for health reasons), so we encourage you to speak to your B&B host to work out what you need.

What’s the cancellation policy for the B&B?

If you reserved accommodation for 2 nights or more, you need to call us (+1- 613-839-1198) at least 14 calendar days before your stay. There’s a $25 administration fee, but we’ll refund the rest.

  • If we don’t have 14 calendar days notice, please call us and we’ll try to re-book the room.  If we can re-book the room, then we’ll refund the rest of the deposit (minus $25 for cancellation fee).
  • If we can only re-book the room for some of the nights, you’ll be refunded for the nights that were re-booked, but you’ll still need to pay for the nights that weren’t re-booked and the $25 cancellation fee.
  • If we can’t re-book the room at all, you’ll need to pay for the whole stay.

We’re a small company, and we can’t afford to offer compassionate refunds, so our cancellation policy (which you can read in full in our accommodation policies) applies to everyone, regardless of circumstance. No full refunds are possible, as all cancellations cost at least $25.

If you reserved accommodation for 1 night only, we can’t give you a refund and the full charge will apply.

What should I bring? How do I prepare?

At the EcoWellness Centre, we ask guests to remove their shoes indoors. Please bring along your house slippers to use, or enjoy a selection of soft slippers provided by the entrance door if needed.

We suggest that guests bring light clothes (suitable for yoga and meditation activities), and outdoor clothes suitable for the weather. While there are no laundry facilities on site, we do have an environmentally friendly local laundry service available that picks up and delivers to our location.

Linens and towels are provided at the B&B.

Electronic Device Information

There are multiple power points to recharge your devices. International visitors need to bring a North American adapter. We have a Business Services Area where all guests can connect to our complimentary internet service.

You don’t need to physically prepare yourself before you come, activities are available for all fitness levels.

What shouldn’t I bring?

We discourage guests from smoking at our retreat. However, there is an outdoor smoking area available if you’re still trying to quit. No smoking is allowed indoors, and we reserve the right to charge a room recovery fee if guests don’t comply.

Please don’t bring any recreational drugs or alcohol.

Guests can bring their own food if they wish, but we ask that you eat it in the dining room, or outside on the patio.  As rubbish can pose a threat to wildlife, we also ask that you dispose of any wrappers responsibly. Please note that currently, there aren’t any cooking facilities available to guests.

What are my food options?

If you’re staying at the Forest Retreat B&B, the price includes a full hot breakfast (served at 8:00 am, 8:30 am and 9:00 am, Sundays 9:00 am only). Cold breakfast selections are available till 11:00 am, on a self-catering basis. You’ll have a range of healthy and restorative options to choose from.  And we cater to any dietary needs, just let us know in advance.

To have our resident cook also serve you lunch and dinner, check our menu here. You can arrange your meals with us after you’ve booked. All the ingredients are either homegrown from our garden and forest, or locally grown, organic produce.

And if you need a coffee fix, coffee is served in the morning with breakfast. There’s also a self service bar in the dining room where tea is always available.

Please note that currently, there aren’t any cooking facilities available to guests.

If you’re looking to eat off site, feel free to ask us for any recommendations or read more about what’s in the area.

What transport options are available? Is there parking?

You can drive to Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre by car.  Google Maps will find it by title – just key in Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre.

There’s lots of parking here, and it’s FREE.

How do I check in and check out?

Checking In

If you’re staying with us at the Forest Retreat B&B, we’ll be there to greet you when you arrive and show you your room! After you’ve booked online, you’ll organize your check-in time with us by appointment (between 3:00 pm till 11:00pm).

If your arrival times change, call us at +1-613-839-1198 to let us know.

If you’re late, you may miss out on your personalized greeting, but don’t worry, you’ll still be able to access your room.  Call us at +1 613-839-1198, and we’ll organize where to send you the code to enter the B&B and your room. We don’t have a 24-hour front desk, so if you’d like to do this, please let us know as early as you can.

If you arrive earlier than your check-in appointment, you can leave your bags with the B&B host (no extra cost), and explore the area.

You may be able to arrange an early check-in. Contact us in advance to see if it’s possible.

If you’re attending a program or workshop, you can book in services like saunas, and massages, or see a naturopathic practitioner in the clinic between Monday and Thursday.

Checking Out

You can check out anytime before 11:00 am.

If you need to leave your baggage with the B&B host, arrange that with us when you’re checking out (no cost).

What accessibility options are available for guests with special needs?

The Learning Centre (across from the B&B) is wheelchair accessible, and some of our nature trails are too! We intentionally built a wheelchair accessible shower room and washroom in the B&B during 2017 renovations.

Accessibility is very important to us. Please let us tell you all about it.

Can children stay?

Yes! EcoWellness is very family friendly, and we have lots of activities available for kids. Self-Guided activities are family friendly, and offered to Members and B&B Forest Retreat guests. Cots can be added to rooms at $20 a night.

Can I bring my pet?

Get your leash ready, because we’ve set aside special days when dog owners can take their pets out on the trails. You can read more about our pet policy here.

If you’re staying at our B&B, our accommodation is pet friendly! But each night costs an extra $10 per pet. We welcome friendly pets, but please keep an eye on your pet at all times and clean up after them. Just like all our guests, your pet(s) also needs to follow our quiet time rules (found in our accommodation policies), and make as little noise as possible between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am.

Can I purchase gift certificate/voucher for someone else?

Absolutely. You can purchase a gift voucher in person, or over the phone. Please call 613-839-1198 or email us for more information.

Is the accommodation serviced?

Yes, the accommodation is serviced daily from 11:00 am till 3:oo pm (read more on our policies). Linens and towels are provided. After each guest, all rooms are cleaned, and all linens are changed and washed.

Daily changes of linen and towels can have an impact on the environment. As an eco-friendly retreat, we ask guests staying multiple nights to avoid daily changes of linen and towels. But if you need more, see your B&B host.

Please be mindful we’re a small company, so linens and towels that are permanently stained will incur a replacement fee.

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day will depend on when you come! In the autumn, you might imagine waking up and having breaky while seeing the delights of morning in nature. Perhaps you’d rather have a hot drink outside in the gardens and help pick some vegetables for dinner. In summer you might want to tramp around the trails or go for a yoga or reiki class. Some of you may even seek out a session with a naturopathic practitioner to learn more about you and how you can take better care of yourself.

Can I donate to EcoWellness?

Yes, you can online (coming soon), or in person. We have a charitable organization on site for ‘The Carp Ridge Learning Centre’ which means you can receive charitable tax receipts. The charity is dedicated to promoting healthy living, such as helping a kid go to camp. It offers practical skills for sustainable living. Most children’s programs are funded through this charity to subsidize the cost for parents.
