Mind-Body Medicine

(German New Medicine)

What is Mind-Body Medicine (MBM)?

Our Mind-Body Medicine program is more than mindfulness techniques and stress reduction. We have taken it one step further to address how trauma or biological shocks can create physical symptoms and pathologies. We use German New Medicine to uncover the specific stressors causing your physical symptoms and use a combination of therapies and holistic counselling to resolve/reduce the stress response in your body. We also provide dietary education and recommend a minimal amount of nutritional and herbal supplements to support your body while it is going through the healing process and to address functional deficiencies.

We are using the term Mind-Body Medicine (MBM) to describe our practice of integrated German New Medicine. Please book your MBM appointments online or in person.  If you have insurance for Naturopathic Medicine AND you live in Ontario, please book as a naturopathic appointment.

What to expect:

Mind-Body Medicine Initial Visit: We begin by exploring the connections between your condition(s) and psychological trauma/shocks. We will gather information to research your case from several angles, including mainstream medicine.

Following this visit, we both have homework: you will be asked to send us further data, including lab work, scan reports and physical exam results (if available). Based on this information, we will develop an integrative approach to support your healing.

Part of your homework will involves a Hair Mineral Screening Test.  It provides us information about your nutritional status, how well your nervous system is balancing between stress and relaxation, whether your adrenal and thyroid glands are tired or over-stimulated, how well your body is metabolizing sugar and how these factors correlate with the psyche.

People who live within travelling distance can come to the clinic for a Vitality Assessment, which includes orthostatic blood pressure, urine and saliva testing, iridology screen, tongue assessment, Ayurvedic constitutional typing, blood typing (if you don’t already know), and oxygen saturation.  The final piece is undergoing a BioScan Test for supplement optimization and food sensitivities. *Our goal is always to keep supplementation and diet restrictions to a minimum.

If you are not local, consider staying in a nearby hotel so you can participate in our in-person assessments.  With that in mind, we work with many clients successfully abroad.

Mind-Body Medicine Second Visit: We will combine our analysis and recommendations in an individualized program for you.  This includes: how your body is coping with past traumas; whether you are in active, healing or hanging mode; what to expect in a healing process; effective tools for resolving emotional shocks; supportive lifestyle tips, and inclusion of other practitioners if needed. We integrate medical and Mind-Body approaches using evidence-based medicine as well as common sense, honouring your own preferences and values.

We support your right to make decisions about your health care, whatever they may be.  We can meet with family, friends and/or current practitioners to explain our approach.

Over the years, we have found that there are certain optimal conditions for a successful program:

  • A solid support team, especially those living with you.
  • A clear understanding of German New Medicine. We will provide you with resources.
  • A willingness to cultivate a balanced healthy lifestyle.
  • Time to rest.
  • An understanding that GNM is not widely known yet and so one’s decisions will not necessarily be supported by one’s medical practitioners. One needs to have a strong sense of responsibility for one’s health and be able to balance practitioners with different approaches.
  • Being willing to ask questions about every detail so that you are clear and confident about your healing path.
  • Please make sure to let us know when there are new symptoms immediately so that we can help you understand what they mean in the context of GNM.
  • We fully support decisions you make around your health – you are always in the driver’s seat.
