Tarot is a form of cartomancy – divination using a deck of cards. Incorporating tarot reading into your personal practice is a powerful way to gain insights that can help guide you on your path.
Are you:
- Curious about tarot but not sure where to start?
- Feeling called to use tarot as part of your personal practice, but finding all the information available overwhelming?
- Frustrated or confused by the interpretations in the book that came with your deck?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this workshop is for you.
My mother gave me my first tarot deck when I was twelve years old. Over the years, I’ve taken several courses on tarot reading, read many books (including the little ones that come with the deck), and consulted an endless number of online sources to try to be a better reader, and come up with the “right” interpretation of the cards. I learned a lot, but for the most part, the experience was frustrating. Most of what I read told me that my interpretations were wrong – not much of a confidence booster.
About 10 years ago, I decided that I would ignore what the books said, and work with fundamentals and my own intuition. Changing my approach made an amazing difference in my personal practice and in my readings for others.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to read tarot for yourself and others by focusing on some of the basics of the cards, and calling on your own intuition. Over the course of these two days, you’ll discover:
- Choosing and caring for your deck
- Tarot systems – Thoth and Rider Waite Smith
- The structure of the tarot, including the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana and Court Cards
- The suits and what they represent
- Numerology as it relates to tarot
- How to interpret colour in the cards
- The relationship between the cards, astrological signs, and planets
- How to combine suits, numerology, and astrology to interpret cards
- The progression through the tarot
- How to read the notoriously confusing court cards
- Some simple spreads for divination
- An introduction to your tarot “family” based on your sun sign and date of birth. This group of cards will provide you with deeper insights into your personal journey with the tarot.
If you have your own tarot deck, bring it with you to the workshop – feel free to bring more than one. If you don’t have a deck, I’ll have several on hand for you to work with during the workshop – this will help identify which decks feel best for you. Some decks may be available for purchase at the workshop.
About Melanie Paquette
I’m a dreamer, storyteller, jewelry designer, maker of mystical things and a believer in everyday magic. I believe that things have power because we believe they do and that bringing our dreams and stories into physical form through art, tarot, and words helps anchor our desires in the ordinary world.
I’ve worked in high tech for over 30 years and it’s taught me that magic and logic can co-exist, and that in the end, everything is about people and their stories. I’ve studied crystal healing, shamanism, psychic development, mediumship, and tarot, and I bring elements of all those practices (and more) into what I offer — from jewelry to tarot to teaching.
